Educating international IS professionals
During the past two decades, information technology has become an integral part of our lives and our work. It is the single most important driver for business and economic development, not only in the developed world but also in the developing economies. The pervasive nature of technology in modern society has meant an increasing need also for professionals, who understand IT and business. The challenge is not in technology, which is indeed becoming easier to use - at last. The true challenge is in understanding business needs and in managing change.
Here in Turku School of Economics we have provided an IS major in our Finnish bachelor and master programs since the early 1980s. The Global IT Management (GITM) program was established in 2003 as a genuinely international master’s program. A few years later we initiated the International Master in Management of IT (IMMIT) program as a multiple degree program with Aix Marseille University and in Tilburg University. Our participation in IMMIT has helped us a lot also in further development of GITM. We are proud of both of these programs and I sincerely hope you will take a close look at both of them, before making your decision where to apply.
Our traditions in education do not mean, that we would not continue improving our programs. Program curricula, contents in individual courses, and teaching methods are constantly being evaluated. During this coming academic year (2013-14) we will again take a new look at the GITM program to improve it. This will be done in close collaboration with existing GITM students and representatives from industry. Hence, when you’ll start, we hope to be able to offer you an even more inspiring program.
Welcome to Finland and to our programs!
